Pasar Minggu Residents Appreciate Cat Population Handling

Resident appreciated the cat population handling through sterilization program held by South Jakarta Food Security, Marine and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency at RW 08, Pasar Minggu Urban Village, Pasar Minggu District.

This sterilization program is already routinely held

One of local resident, Selvi (31), appreciated the implementation of sterilization of stray cats by applying the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) method which is considered to be able to handle the cat population in an area.

"We need to limit the stray cat population. TNR method is good to do this while also keep their life and health," she said, Friday (6/13).

Meanwhile, South Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency's Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Section, Irawati Harry Artharini explained TNR method is run as a form of concern for the stray cat population so that it remains under control and lives healthier in the community.

"This sterilization program is already routinely held for stray cats at residentials and markets," she explained.

She added that 46 male and 20 female stray cats were sterilized during the program held at RW 08, Pasar Minggu Urban Village.

She stated that the sterilization process also involves a team of veterinary doctors and volunteers who promptly handle each cat with love and professionalism.

"We return the cats to their original habitat after going through a post-sterilization recovery period," she stated.
